My English Bulldog fart a lot! How should I do?

If you have an English Bulldog, you’ve probably noticed that they fart a lot.

Farts – the ones that stink a lot – are a characteristic of the Bulldog, but not only. Other breeds such as Boxers, French Bulldogs, and Pugs are also renowned for their farting.

Why do Bulldogs fart alot

The sad truth is that your Bulldog farts a lot because It has a sensitive stomach and doesn’t digest food very well.

The shape of the Bulldog’s skull affects food intake. Its short nose and flat face make it difficult for them to eat at the right pace. For this reason, many Bulldogs tend to eat too quickly and consequently cause excess air in the belly.

Diet and Nutrition

Yes, there are some foods that contribute to your Bulldog’s fart, here are what they are:

  • Too many carbohydrates – if you give your dog kibble, you need to know that many commercial dog foods are chock full of carbohydrates that contain sugar and starch. These ingredients ferment in your dog’s intestines and cause flatulence.
  • Leftover food – the sweet eyes the Bulldog gives you while you eat are hard to resist, but giving It bits of your food and leftovers makes It feel airy in Its belly – and trust me, the smell will be anything but pleasant.
  • Dairy – dogs can also be lactose intolerant. Most dairy products such as cheese and milk can cause flatulence.
  • Vegetables – Cauliflower, beans, broccoli, kale, and soy are foods that make Their stomach feel airy.
  • Cereals – Grains such as wheat or corn can contribute to the problem as dogs may react poorly to their intake.
  • Poor quality food – there is a reason why low-quality food is cheap. The ingredients they are made of cause flatulence, but unfortunately, even more, expensive foods can lead to the same problem. Always check the ingredients when buying food for your dog.

What can I do to avoid the problem?

You can’t stop your Bulldog from farting. It’s a characteristic of the breed! You can, however, lessen the problem and even reduce the stench by feeding the Bulldog the following:

  • High-quality food – you can buy it or cook it yourself.
  • Foods rich in fiber – fiber helps keep the dog’s digestive system in top condition. You can feed It apples, brown rice, carrots, and green beans.
  • Herbs – there are many herbs that aid digestion such as chamomile, cardamom, fennel, mint, fenugreek, and anise.
  • Fart cookies – yes. Apparently, there are anti-farts cookies on the market, which contain fiber.
  • Yogurt – Fortunately, most lactose-intolerant dogs tolerate yogurt. This product helps reduce gas thanks to live lactic ferments that aid digestion. You could put two teaspoons of yogurt in your dog’s food.
  • Probiotics – Probiotics such as Yakult help reduce flatulence.
